5 Wedding trends we’ve seen this summer

Autumn is here and we’re reminiscing over the emerging wedding trends we’ve seen this summer. These creative twists have made oliver 4Dunglass weddings even more memorable! Let us know what you think:

1. Vintage Wedding Styling

Vintage wedding styling has featured strongly during 2015. Dunglass wedding belles Oliver and Charlotte used vintage cups, saucers and side plates alongside rustic centrepieces to give their wedding a vintage twist. For more inspiration on vintage-themed weddings, take a look at our vintage weddings Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/dunglasse/vintage-weddings/

2. Cheese Wedding Cakes

Along with the polished naked wedding cake, we’ve seen a departure from the traditional fruit cake with couples choosing cheese. We talked to Ian from The Cheese Shed and asked him why. He told us, “people choose them because they want something a bit different, because they aren’t wild about fruit cake … or because they just love cheese and want to get some visual value out of the cheese course. Decorate a cheese cake well and it’ll be stunning, the centre of attention.”

We couldn’t agree more and expect to see more cheese wedding cakes in 2016.

3. Chocolate Fountains

A great wedding trend for chocolate lovers. When Kirsty and Grant  married at Dunglass they delighted their guests with a chocolate fountain! Our team were on hand throughout the day to ensure Kirsty and Grant’s special day went without a hitch.

4. Cocktail Stations

We love this idea! A recent bride and groom celebrated their Dunglass wedding with a BBQ and a cocktail station. Drink stations can be a fun yet sophisticated addition, and give couples chance to add a personal touch to the wedding drinks selection. From ready made cocktails to champagne and strawberries, you choose and your guest enjoy. For more drink station inspiration – click here.

5. Mid Week Weddings

During 2015 we witnessed a huge rise in the popularity of mid week weddings with savvy couples taking advantage of the many benefits of avoiding Saturdays. If you’ve got your heart set on a fairytale wedding venue, you might just get it mid-week – for less! Dunglass wedding belles Caroline & Allan did just that and had a breathtaking wedding in August.

Wedding Cake Trends – The Polished Naked Cake

They were right!

Check out this stunning ‘polished’ naked wedding cake created for Oliver & Charlotte by Pamela Stirling, the bride’s mother, in her kitchen.

We’re sure you’ll agree, it’s absolutely stunning. We’re sure it was delicious too!

1.  “The biggest swing we’ve seen in the last year up to now is more winter weddings,” commented GWS Photography. “Couples seem to not want to gamble on good weather.” We couldn’t agree more! And we have a very special winter wedding offer coming soon… Watch this space!

2. “It’s nice to see the Father/Daughter dance making a comeback.” Photographer Derek Christie has taken some fantastic dance photos!

3. Bloomia Florist have noticed that a lot of brides are keen to feature burgundy in their wedding bouquets and decorations this year. “It is a very classic and romantic colour!” However, they caution their wedding clients to follow their hearts, rather than trends.

5. “The big trend in wine is a move towards Sauvignon Blanc, particularly New Zealand and a move away from Pinot Grigio. With regards to the reds, Malbec is starting to overtake sales of more well know varieties such as Merlot. Basically, people are becoming more adventurous.” Majestic

6. Makeup Artist Natalie said, “I’ve noticed a big trend in back to basics, a focus on a natural look that’s all about glowing skin, neutral tones and allowing a bride’s natural beauty be the centre of attention on the big day. With the help of some individual false eyelashes of course!”

We’d just like to echo the brilliant advice of Bloomia Florist and encourage couples to “follow their hearts, rather than trends.”
