The Beauty of Intimate Weddings – Why Bigger Isn’t Always Better

When it comes to planning your wedding, fewer people can mean a more personal celebration. You’ve got more time to spend with your wedding party, your guests can really get to know one another and you can pay attention to those finer details that make your wedding truly memorable.

Here’s five reasons why an intimate wedding might be right for you.

Keep to a smaller budget

Deciding to have a smaller, intimate celebration can work wonders on your wedding budget. Maybe you’d rather put the money towards building your future, such as a down payment for your first house together, a once in a lifetime honeymoon or simply have more to spend on those finer wedding details.

A licence to splurge

Some couples like to have a small guest list, not because their budget is small, but because it allows them to splash out on other things. This could be a five-piece jazz band in the foyer of Dunglass House or it could be splashing out on the wedding dress of your dreams.

Treat your guests well

Personalised details are more manageable when there’s less people to think about. Your guests can truly relax and enjoy every moment of your nuptials without getting caught up in the chaos. There are so many ways you can add that extra wow factor and an added bonus is that you get to cut down on the thank you cards.

Think gourmet

Just because you’re saving money elsewhere doesn’t mean you can’t splurge on your special day. Why not treat your guests to an indulgent wedding breakfast served with the finest wines.

How does a five-course East Lothian tasting menu sound? Or maybe you want to incorporate some family favourites to your menu – whatever you fancy Hickory, our award-winning caterer, can create a truly gourmet experience for you and your guests.

Quality time with the ones you love

Ultimately getting married is not only the joining of two people but the coming together and merging of friends and family. With a smaller guest list, you’ll have more time to spend with those closest to you and your guests will have more time to get to know one another.

How many times have you been to a wedding where you’ve hardly spoken to the bride or groom? Create memories that you’ll cherish with your loved ones and take your time to really catch up with your guests.

Feeling pretty convinced? We don’t blame you! If keeping your wedding special means just inviting your close family and friends, our charming Intimate Wedding Package may be the perfect choice for you.

For a maximum of 22 guests, you and your guests can stay in all three of our luxurious properties on Dunglass Estate: Dunglass House, Laundry Cottage and Stable Cottage.

Drinks Receptions at Dunglass Estate

It’s your wedding day so it should be everything you’ve ever dreamt of. Why not make it extra special with some wonderful little surprises for your guests and the bridal party;

A Bride’s Reception

To make sure you capture every second of your fairy tale wedding, get all the bridal party together for some delectable pre-wedding snacks before the ceremony. We can bring you a selection of mini croissants and finger sandwiches, seasonal fruit platters and sweet treats to tantalise your taste buds and relax you before you say “I Do” in the stunning 15th Century Church. It’s the perfect start to the perfect day, living out every girl’s wedding fantasy.

A Groom’s Reception

Have you thought about having a groom’s reception? The groom can welcome both your guests in a classy, stylish way with a delicious pre-wedding drink. This is a great way to start as you mean to go on and share the excitement of the bride’s grand entrance with your guests. We can provide each of your guests with a glass of wine or beer, prior to the ceremony either in the marquee or in the gorgeous grounds of Dunglass Estate.

Signature Cocktails

Whether you choose to have a Bride’s Reception, a Groom’s Reception or both, you could surprise everyone with some delicious signature drinks. If the bride’s favourite tipple is a mojito, why not have one while getting ready for the big day with the rest of the bridal party? If the groom is really into margaritas, serve them to your loved ones too. Your guests will love being pleasantly surprised by these little personal touches.

A DIY Bellini Bar

If your guests love being hands on, then they’ll love a pop up bar during your drinks reception, especially for making their own Bellini. Create your own sparkling beverage with a selection of handmade syrups to choose from (lovingly made by our talented Bar Managers) and fresh fruit garnishes. It sounds delicious, if you ask us.

Why get married in autumn at Dunglass Estate?

Autumn is a truly magnificent time of year to fall for, especially at Dunglass Estate. While the trees are starting to lose their leaves, you’ve got great things to look forward to, like saying your vows in the stunning gothic 15th century church and celebrating surrounded by your loved ones.

One reason we love autumn, is the gorgeous fall colours that come with the season. Think deep reds, oranges, yellows, and all kinds of shades of brown. The warmth of these colours can help fill the air with the love you both have for one another and create a truly romantic atmosphere on your big day. Autumn is the best time of year to take hold of all these vibrant colours and just run with them – picture your bridesmaids’ dresses, those stunning floral centrepieces and feature florals in an autumnal palette decorating the church.

Autumn wedding pictures are also some of the most stunning, just have a look at this inspirational board on our Pinterest. Who wouldn’t want those stunning fallen leaves as a background in their wedding photos? You can also decorate the venue with pumpkins and acorns, and really embrace the nature of the season.

Another great thing about autumn weddings is the slightly cooler weather. Britain’s weather can often be unpredictable, but we usually have beautiful bright, clear, dry days in autumn. Nothing beats the feel and smell of the cool autumn air. And if guests are cold in the church, we’ll make sure they keep warm by providing cosy woollen blankets for them to wrap up in. We’ll even provide hot water bottles too, to make sure everyone is toasty and warm.

We’ve got two dates left in 2016 – 15th and 22nd October – which would be perfect for your dream autumn marquee wedding, and we’ve a great discounted offer on for this too.  What are you waiting for? Book your wedding appointment with us now.
