Recently engaged herself, our exceptional Sales and Planning Coordinator Fiona Somerville knows what it takes to organize truly inspirational events.
Fiona joined the Hickory team last year, having previously worked in the creative industries. Since beginning her role, Fiona’s artistic talents have been put to the test. Turning her hand to anything Fiona is proud to have influenced innumerable creative directives. Whether she’s been choosing interiors, sorting center pieces, deliberating staff uniforms or reupholstering furniture, Fiona is determined to go over and above to ensure each of her bride’s weddings is unique and meets our award-winning status.
Fiona fell in love with Dunglass Estate early on, and is delighted to be spending most of her time here this summer as dedicated planning coordinator. Never one for being stuck in the office Fiona is elated many of her meetings now occur against an idyllic backdrop and sees this role as the perfect fit.
For those of you yet to meet Fiona, you will have the opportunity at the Wedding Showcase Weekend at Dunglass Estate on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March. We hope to see you there!

We can hardly contain our excitement here at Hickory, the exclusive managers of Dunglass Estate weddings and events. We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Dunglass Estate has been awarded the coveted title of Small Venue of the Year at the Scottish Event Awards 2016.
The Drum Scottish Event Awards are the only awards dedicated to recognising and rewarding the very best of Scotland’s events industry. The panel of judges comprised some of the most talented and experienced Events and Hospitality people in the industry. It is a huge honour to win this award and be recognised for such an impressive accolade.
The judges described the venue as a beautiful and traditional historic estate with a wow factor.
The win at the Scottish Event Awards comes on the back of a series of award successes for Hickory. We have been shortlisted for eight industry awards, including The Drum’s Content Marketing Awards for our Botanical Gin Bar at the Royal Highland Show and Best Event Caterer at The Caterer’s Foodservice Catey Awards in London – both of which are UK national awards.
We have also received a commendation in the second category we were shortlisted for at the Scottish Event Awards, The Green Award. As a Gold member of Green Tourism, the world’s largest sustainable certification programme, Hickory prides itself on its commitment to sustainability in all aspects of the business.
Our award success for Dunglass Estate is a huge reflection of the beauty and impact of the estate, and also the hard work and dedication of the Hickory team who deliver excellent service and delicious food time after time.

At Dunglass Estate, we do private parties with an elegant twist. Picture relaxing in the luxurious Dunglass House, surrounded by your loved ones raising their glasses to toast you on your happy occasion. It could be anything from a birthday bash to that special anniversary celebration; what doesn’t change is the magic the accommodation on the estate can bring to your special event.
This beautiful house has an impressive drawing room, complete with warming fireplace and a traditional piano. Think of celebrating with live music in the background, if you or one of your guests know how to play, that is! This opens out into a gorgeous dining room, perfect for an intimate sit down dinner or nibbling on some delicious finger food.
The property has all the comforts of home, including Wi-Fi, and offers five generously sized double bedrooms for your guests to spend the night. The master bedroom has en-suite facilities, though there’s also a family bathroom and two modern shower rooms. We’ll happily provide you and your guests with luxury bed linen and soft white fluffy towels, so you can relax and unwind.
The house boasts a wonderfully light south-facing conservatory. It’s a lovely place to relax with family and friends after the events of the night before. Picture indulging in a sumptuous afternoon tea with your nearest and dearest, carrying on the sophisticated celebrations into the next day. Outside, there are stunning gardens and grounds surrounding the Estate. The house has its own terrace with a BBQ which is heavenly in the summer months. There’s a wood-burning stove to keep everyone cosy, which is great to curl up by in the cooler months.
There are also two additional cosy cottages, Laundry Cottage and Stable Cottage, in close proximity on the estate for your guests to stay in. This way, you can have all your friends and family in the one place, celebrating with you and don’t have to leave anyone out.
We can organise for delicious meals, canapés or sharing platters to be dropped off at the house for you and your guests, so you don’t have any of the hassle of nipping out to the supermarket. It really is the most relaxing and indulgent place to have your private party or weekend get-together.

At Dunglass Estate, we’re loving the romance of rustic weddings. This isn’t a wedding trend, it’s a whole style devoted to being sweet and creative. With its homely feel and its easy ability to be personalised to suit anyone’s tastes, it’s no wonder we’ve all fallen head over heels in love with it. What better way to make your love blossom and share its growth with those you love around you.
The rustic look is full of gorgeous natural colours and textures. Think wood, barrels, tree logs and candles in hues of brown, cream and green. Picture gorgeous table centrepieces on beautiful slabs of Hickory wood (that we can provide), to make a statement and help you to really share the nature of your romance with your guests.
We love the personalised wooden signs, be them on wooden planks or barrels, with a personalised message or quote for your guests to really capture the moment, whether it’s for a drink station or at the entrance to the stunning 15th Century church before your ceremony. Your guests can even wrap up in cosy blankets laid out on the church pews, so they can share in the warmth of your love for one another while you recite your vows. It’s these little details that make your special big day that little bit more magical and unforgettable.
Welcome your guests with a personalised jam jar signature cocktail, created just for you and your guests by our talented Bar Managers. If you ask us, this is the perfect rustic addition to get everyone in the mood. Continue the celebrations with a delicious Hickory Hog roast, with tender pork that is succulent and just falls off the bone flawlessly. This classic comfort food helps to let the relaxed atmosphere continue throughout your magical wedding celebrations.
In terms of décor, nothing says rustic more than bunting everywhere, decorating a large tree with an interactive photo frame, a tree swing or a touch of sparkle with some fairy lights.

If you’re tempted by the idea of a Dunglass wedding, you really must come and see the estate for yourself…and now is your chance! Between 10am and 3pm on the dates below we’re inviting new customers to visit the estate and have a consultation with one of our experienced Wedding Planners.
You’ll be able to see Dunglass at its stunning best, from the cosy luxury accommodation with fires lit to the pews in our romantic church. You’ll also be able to chat with our team about your ideas and options – all over mini afternoon tea with freshly-baked scones and glasses of fizz!
I like having the freedom to create memorable weddings, weddings that are tailored to the couple. At Dunglass no two couples are the same and no two weddings are the same – the combination of our skills and the couple’s imagination mean each wedding is a fabulous success. That’s what makes Dunglass so special.
Most important has been the amazing feedback from brides and grooms about the many weddings we’ve held over the last year. The venue has looked fantastic, and beautifully maintained by Simon and team. The new Hickory menus have been very well received, and personally I’ve been delighted to see such fantastic food served in this stunning venue.
Yes and they’ve been really successful, particularly the evening receptions in the main house, where additional guests have joined in the merriment! We’re looking forward to carrying this on in 2016.
Certainly at Dunglass we can really tailor our approach to individual needs. We listen to what our customers want and build packages around this that work, but we really offer a bespoke service. Each wedding should be about the couple as people, not about the venue or market trends.
Yes, midweek weddings give couples a unique flexibility. A while ago the Estate made the commercial decision to only host one wedding per weekend, so as to allow the wedding party to really enjoy their time at Dunglass. Offering a midweek wedding package gives us a second option, and gives brides and grooms another chance to enjoy the estate over a couple of days while still giving them the exclusivity they want. This has been very well received so far.
Working with them is a genuine pleasure. They’re very driven, and have amazing ideas about how to progress the estate. It’s a real labour of love for them. Our meetings are very productive and a real time for coming up with new ideas to make the estate and weddings even more special.
We’ve had an incredibly successful year, and the team and I are looking forward to having an even better 2016. We can’t wait to welcome happy couples and meet new clients at our Open Days.
